Pursuant to School Board Policy BCFZ, the School Board may appoint advisory councils or committees of citizens of the school division for consultation with reference to specific matters pertaining to local schools. These committees shall serve without compensation for one-year terms and report annually to the Board. Community members who have served in the past may reapply to be considered for the upcoming school year. Advisory committees are limited to 20 members and meet a minimum of 4-5 times annually. Advisory committee appointments will occur during the first School Board meeting in September.

Individuals interested in participating on one of these advisory committees should do one of the following by August 25, 2023:

  • Complete the Letter of Interest form
  • Write a letter and email it to [email protected] with the subject line: Advisory Committee
  • Deliver or mail a letter to:
    LCS School Administration Building
    Attn: Tina Day, School Board Clerk
    915 Court Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504

Be sure to include your name, address, phone number, email, and a brief description of why you would like to serve on one or more of the school board advisory committees.

Equity Task Force Committee

The purpose of the Equity Task Force is to assist with the evaluation of equitable practices in six key areas as they relate to improved student outcomes:

  1. Staff recruitment and retention
  2. Academics and school culture and climate
  3. Increased access/opportunities and removal of barriers
  4. Family/community engagement and responsiveness
  5. Staff training and awareness
  6. Cultural diversity, celebration and recognition
General Career Technical Advisory Committee

The purpose of the General Career and Technical Advisory Committee is to advise, assist and provide support and advocacy for high-quality programs that prepare middle and high school students for successful transition to further education and careers.

Health Advisory Board Committee

The purpose of the School Health Advisory Board is to assist with the development of health policy in the school division and the evaluation of the status of school health, health education, the school environment, and health services.

Special Education Advisory Committee

The purpose of the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) is to advise the school division of the needs in the education of children with disabilities; participate in the development of priorities and strategies for meeting the identified needs of children with disabilities, submit periodic reports and recommendations regarding the education of children with disabilities to the local school board, assist the local school division in interpreting plans to the community for meeting the special needs of children with disabilities for educational services, review the policies and procedures for the provision of special education and related services prior to the submission to the local school board, and participate in the review of the local school division’s annual plan.
